Electrical Skills Required by Colleges of Education Technical Students for Employment in Plastic Industries in Cross River State

Abstract

This study was aimed at identifying those electrical skills required by colleges of education 
students for employment in plastic industries in Cross River State. Two research questions and 
two hypotheses guided the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The population of 
the study was 27 lecturers in colleges of education in Cross Rivers State. Due to the manageable 
size of the population, the researcher involved all the respondents. The instrument for the study 
was a self- designed questionnaire structured in four-point scale. The instrument was a face 
content validated and tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha which gave a high co-efficient 
result 0.82 and 0.87. The data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the 
research questions while the hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. 
Findings of the study revealed that lecturers are aware of auto-mobile battery and charging 
system, use of testing lamp, handle wire brush, use electrical soldering iron,read the meter, locate 
the vehicle interface connection port outlet, use grapping pliers, use ammeter, identify collision 
sound of machine ,running fan motor sound, running compressor sound amongst others are 
electrical skills required by colleges of education technical students for employment in plastic 
industries in Cross Rivers State. The study among others recommended that, Workshop 
equipment, tools, machines and raw materials, used for student’s workshop practice in colleges 
of education should be up-dated or replaced with appropriate modern types. Also, that training, 
seminars and workshops should be organized for lectures in colleges of education to improve 
their skills in the areas of electrical skills required by colleges of education students for 
employment
