Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the impact of seasonal flooding on 
buildings in technical colleges in Rivers State in Nigeria. Two research questions 
were formulated and two null hypotheses were tested at .05 level of significance. The 
study adopted a survey research design. The population for the study was 90 
respondents comprising of 20 teachers and 70 students in technical colleges in Rivers 
State. There was no sampling as the population was manageable. A sixteen item 
questionnaire was designed to collect data for the study. The instrument was 
validated by three experts. Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient was used to 
determine the internal consistency of the instrument which stood at .79. The data 
collected for the research questions which guided the study were answered using 
mean and standard deviation, whereas the hypotheses were tested with t-test. The 
result of the study showed the causes of seasonal flooding and the impact of seasonal 
flooding on workshop and classroom buildings in technical colleges in Rivers State. 
It was recommended that adequate drainage channels should be made available by 
residents of technical colleges in Rivers State.
