The study examines the Constraints to the acquisition of blocks moulding skill for entrepreneurship
development of government technical colleges students in Rivers State. The study adopted the
descriptive research design. The population of the study consisted of 4290 owners of block
moulding industries and instructors of Building Technology of the four Government Technical
Colleges in Rivers State out of which a sample size of 364 was determined using the Taro Yamane
formula. A Self-structured instrument titled “Constraints to Acquisition of Block Moulding Skills
for Entrepreneurship development Questionnaire (CABMSEDQ)” was used for data collection.
Mean and standard deviation was used to analyse the research question while z-test was used to test
the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. Four research questions and four null hypotheses were
posed respectively to guide the study. The instrument was faced validated by three experts and
average reliability coefficient 0.92 with Cronbach Alpha coefficient method. Results from the study
shows that both owners of block moulding industry and instructors in the government technical
colleges agreed that financial factors, parental factors, student factors and workshop facility factors
are all hinderances to the acquisition of block moulding skills among students of government
technical colleges in Rivers State. Among other recommendations, it was recommended that
government should provide the enabling environment that motivates our youths who are interested
in block moulding business by facilitating them with start up capital.
