The study focused on the effect of teacher fabricated building models aids on students' academic achievement in
building technology skills in technical colleges in Rivers State. Three purposes, research questions, hypotheses were
formulated to guide the study. The research design that was adopted was the quasi-experimental design. The type of
quasi experimental design used is the non-equivalent control group which involves two groups. Population for the
study comprises 203 block-laying/bricklaying and concrete works students from the five Government technical
colleges in Rivers state. Purposive sampling technique was used to select four out of the five technical colleges used
for the study. A simple random sampling technique was adopted to select the technical colleges that were in the
experimental and the control group respectively. The NTC3 intact classes were used for the research exercise. The
sample consisted of 153 NTC3 block-laying/bricklaying and concrete works students in the Government technical
colleges. The BBCWAT were developed by the researcher and validated by two experts in the Department industrial
technical Education, Ignatuis Ajuru university of education and one expert in building option in federal college of
education technical Omoku. The reliability coefficient of BBCWAT was found to be 0.61. The instruments used for
data collection in this study was Block-laying/bricklaying and concrete works achievement test (BBCWAT). Mean
and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was
used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study were as follows. The findings
of the study revealed that those taught with models performed better and the results are in agreement with the
assertions of the success of technical college programme does not only depend on the teacher but to a very large
extent depends on the utilization of instructional models for teaching. The findings of the study revealed that those
taught with building models performed better in block-laying/bricklaying. The findings of the study revealed that the
mean score for the building model group is higher than the poster/chart group, indicating that those taught with
building models performed better in concreting. Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations
were made: Government should make available various models of Block-laying/bricklaying and concrete works trade
for effective teaching and learning in the classroom. Regular workshop should be organized to promote the production
and usage of Block-laying/bricklaying and concrete works models in Nigeria vocational and technical institutions.
Teachers should inculcate the idea of using various Block-laying/bricklaying and concrete works models whenever
BBC subjects are being taught in the classroom.
