Abstract

The study assessed the modern educational technologies for improving academic achievement of mechanical
engineering craft students in Technical Colleges in Rivers State. The study had three objectives, research questions
and hypotheses. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The study was carried out in Rivers State.
The population of the study was 143 respondents. The study was a census as the entire population was studied. The
instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled “Advanced Technology Systems and Classroom
Management Questionnaire” (ATSCMQ). The instrument was structured on five-point Likert type rating scale of Very
High Extent (VHE), High Extent (HE), Undecided (U), Low Extent (LE) and Very Low Extent (VLE). A
corresponding numerical value of 5, 4,3,2 and 1 was assigned to the response scale for each item. The instrument was
subjected to face-validity by three experts. The internal consistency of the instrument was established using test-retest
reliability method and statistical package for social science (SPSS) was used for data analysis which gave a reliability
coefficient of 0.81. The findings of the study showed that to a high extent multimedia learning technologies improves
academic achievement of mechanical engineering craft students in Technical Colleges in Rivers State. The findings
of the study showed that to a high extent digital content platforms technologies improves academic achievement of
mechanical engineering craft students in Technical Colleges in Rivers State. The findings of the study showed that to
a high extent computer-based training technologies improves academic achievement of mechanical engineering craft
students in Technical Colleges in Rivers State. Base on the findings of study, the following recommendations were
made: Technical colleges teachers should adopt the use of modern educational technologies in teaching mechanical
engineering craft. Governments at all level should encourage the use of modern educational technologies in schools
by providing modern educational technologies and tools. Conducting more studies on modern educational
technologies in the academic realm above the technical college level
