Abstract

The study focused on the effect of simulated-building-drawing on students’ achievement in Building Technology
in Polytechnics in Rivers State. The study explore effects of simulated-building-drawing on students’ achievement
in masonry works and damp proofing skills in Polytechnics in Rivers State. Two purposes, research questions and
hypotheses guided the study. The design of this study is a quasi-experimental pre-test, post-test design with
experimental and non-equivalent groups. The population for the study comprised 160 National Diploma Level II
Building Technology students in the two Polytechnic in Rivers State selected for the study. Purposive random
sampling technique was used to select the two Polytechnics in Rivers State. Furthermore, the intact classes used
indicated that the entire ND II Building Technology students in Captain Elechi Amadi and Ken Sarowiwa
Polytechnics were used. The instrument, lesson plans and the Table of specification/Test Blue Print were subjected
to face and content validation by two experts. The instrument has a reliability index of .87. The findings of the
study revealed that the experimental group had a higher achievement mean score when compared with the control
group and so on. The following recommendations were made based on the findings of the study: Simulation
method of teaching should be adopted by curriculum designers and teachers as one of the participatory method of
teaching and learning of building technology in Polytechnic and so on.
