The study was carried out to investigate the effect of fuel-less generator battery charger project
method on students’ interest in Electrical Installation and Maintenance Works in Technical Colleges
in Rivers State. Specifically, the study determined the extent of male and female students’ interest in
fuel-less generator battery charger project. One research question guided the study and one null
hypothesis was tested. Quasi-experimental research design was adopted for the study. A population
of 76 National Technical Certificate II Electrical Installation and Maintenance Works students was
used for the study. There was no sampling as intact class was used. One instrument, Fuel-less
Generator Battery Charger Project Interest Questionnaire (FGBCPIQ) was developed and validated
by three experts. The reliability of FGBCPIQ was .80 using Cronbach’s Alpha method. This helped
to establish the internal consistency of the items. Data collected from the research questions were
analysed using mean and standard deviation. The t-test statistics was used to test the hypothesis at
the .05 level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that there was no significant difference
between the mean responses of the male and female students on the extent of their interest in fuelless generator battery charger project. In line with this finding, it was recommended that technical
teachers should use fuel-less generator battery charger project method which caters for students’
participation in the classes and therefore improve their academic performance as well as sustains
their interest in the project.
