Integration of Modern Technologies in Instructional Delivery for Effective Preparation of Building Technology Students in Tertiary Institutions, Rivers State

The examined the integration of modern technologies in instructional delivery for effective
preparation of building technology students in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The study
was guided by to specific objectives, two research questions and two null hypotheses. A
descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study with a population of 32 lecturers
in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The sample size of the study was the entire 32 lecturers
in the tertiary institutions in Rivers State. Instrument for data collection was a questionnaire
titled, “Utilisation of Modern Technologies in Building Construction for Instructional
Integration Questionnaire”. It was faced and content validated by two experts. Through
Cronbach Alpha, the reliability of the instrument was established which gave 0.77, and 0.76.
The result of the study revealed modern technologies used in building construction industry.
The study found that extent of integration of the modern technologies in instructional delivery
by lecturers was low. Furthermore, the lecturers agreed that strategies such as making mention
of modern building technologies during lecture delivery and engaging students on fieldtrip
could be used for integrating modern technologies into instructional delivery among building
technology education students. Based on the result, it was recommended among others that
conferences should be organized by departments running building technology programme
with themes aimed at bringing awareness of modern technologies to participants.
