Abstract

The study was carried out to determine the effect of peer tutoring instructional
strategy on students’ interest in Electronics Works Trade in Rivers State owned
technical colleges. Quasi-experimental design was used. The population of the study
consisted of 116 students. The two Government Technical Colleges were
purposively selected and assigned into experimental and control groups. Two
research questions guided the study and two n u l l hypotheses were formulated
and tested. One instrument: Electronics Works interest inventory (EWII) was
developed and subjected to face and content validation by three experts of who two
were fromTechnology and Vocational Education and the other one from Computer
and Science Education (Measurement and Evaluation), Enugu State University of
Science and Technology. The reliability of the EWII was established using
Cronbach’s Alpha method, which stood at .92. Data on students’ interest was
collected using Electronics Works interest inventory (EWII). The research questions
were answered using mean statistics. The results indicated higher mean interest
scores of students taught Electronics Works using peer tutoring instructional
strategy than those taught using lecture method. Also, there is a significant
difference between male and female students’ mean interest scores in favour of the
male students. It was recommended that peer tutoring instructional strategy should
be employed by technical teachers in teaching Electronics Works including other
technical subjects/trades in Technical Colleges to enhance students’ interest
