Business Educators’ Perception on Producing Quality Entrepreneurship Education Graduates in Rivers State Universities

Abstract

The study examined business educator perception on producing quality entrepreneurship education in Rivers State
Universities. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The descriptive survey research design 
was used for the study. The population of the study comprises of 20 Business Educators from Rivers State University 
and 57 from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. The entire population was used because the population was not 
too large that will warrant sampling. The instrument was validated by three experts. The internal consistency of the 
instrument was determined using test- retest method of validation. A reliability coefficient of 0.71 was obtained 
showing that the instrument was reliable. A total of 77 questionnaires were administered and retrieved and used for 
the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions and t-test was used to test the 
hypotheses at 0.05 significance level. The findings of the study revealed that business educator perceived all the 
component of entrepreneurship education curriculum suitable for producing quality entrepreneurship education in 
Rivers State, business educators perceived all the teaching method suitable for producing quality entrepreneurship 
education graduate in Rivers State Universities. The two null hypothesis tested shows that there is no significant 
differences in the mean rating of Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of education. Based on the 
finding it was recommended that supervisory agencies such as NBTC, NUC, NCCE and other stakeholder in education 
should consistently review entrepreneurship education curriculum to include important component that are relevant 
which may not be in the curriculum thus ensure effective implementation of the contents. Business educators should 
endeavor to use practical teaching method as interview with entrepreneurs, field trips, case study and other effective 
and practical method that will enhance student acquisition of skills
