Administrators' Technological Resources Management Competencies and Efficiency in the Administration of Public Universities in Rivers State

This study investigated the relationship between administrators' Technological resource management competencies and efficiency in the administration of Public Universities in Rivers State. The study was carried out in the three public Universities in Rivers State- University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education. The population of this study comprised 450 administrators drawn from the three public universities in Rivers State. The Census method was used to sample the entire population due to the manageable size of the population. Two sets of questionnaires titled “Administrators’ Resources Management Competences Questionnaire (ARMCEAPUQ)” and “Efficiency in the Administration of Public Universities Questionnaire (EAPUQ). The questionnaires have two sections: A and B. Section A dealt with the demographic data of the respondents and B dealt with questionnaire items structured on a four-point likert scale. The internal consistency of the instrument was established using the Cronbach Alpha method to achieve a reliability coefficient 0.82. Data collected for this study were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMCC) statistics. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between administrators’ technological resource management competences and efficiency in the administration of public universities in Rivers State. It was concluded that possessing these competencies will bring about effective administration. The study recommended among others that the Information and Communication Technology Centre of the universities should organize periodic trainings for administrative staff on how to use specialized technology for effective administration of the universities.
