Abstract

This study investigated the perceived influence of innovative teaching platforms on learning outcome of students in National Open University in South-South, Nigeria. Three objectives, three research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study was 201 consisting of 22 facilitators and 179 final year students from National Open Universities in in south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The entire population was used as the sample which infers census. The instrument for data collection was a self-developed questionnaire titled: “Perceived Influence of Innovative Teaching Platforms on Learning Outcome of Students Questionnaire” which was validated by two experts in Measurement and Evaluation and Department of Educational Management. The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach Alpha statistic which yielded reliability indexes of 0.84, 0.86 and 0.82. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while z-test statistics was used in testing the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings of the study revealed that flip classroom, Zoom and Micro Soft Teams as an innovative teaching platform influence learning outcome of students in National Open University in South-South, Nigeria to a high extent. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that flip classroom should be encouraged to be adopted in interaction with both facilitators and students during learning, as it will enhance their interest in the subject matter.
