Community Education Programmes for Reducing Teenage Pregnancy in Obolo Nation Southern Nigeria

This study examined community education programmes for reducing teenage pregnancy in Obolo Kingdom Southern Nigeria. The study was guided by three objectives from which three research questions were derived. Descriptive survey was adopted in the study with a population of 255 beneficiaries and facilitators from female based community organization. This comprises of 238 Beneficiaries from the two local government in Obolo Nation and 17 facilitators from female based organisations in Obolo Nation Southern Nigeria. The entire population was taken as a census without sampling due to the small and manageable size of the population. A self-structured questionnaire titled “Community Education programmes for reducing teenage pregnancy (CEPRTP) was used as instrument for data collection. The instrument used was validated by two experts in the field of study including the researcher’s supervisors and reliability Coefficient of 0.82, 0.78, 0.88 was obtained using cronbach alpha statistics. Research questions were analyzed with mean and standard deviation. Findings from the study revealed that basic literacy education, vocational education and health education, reduces teenage pregnancy in Obolo Nation Southern Nigeria to a high extent. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that government should ensure compulsory basic literacy education is enforced and implemented, so young people can be enlightened to make good choices in life.
