Abstract

This work is focused on examination malpractice and its consequences on our national Development. The hydraheaded monster seems to have eaten deep into the marrows of our educational system, such that, it has drastically
undermined the provision of quality education in our country Nigeria. Because the overall goal of education as spelt
out in the National Policy on Education would hardly be realized without concrete adherence to laid down rules and
regulations binding the conduct of examinations. The work identifies some of the major causes and forms of
examination malpractice in Nigeria. It argues that one of the major causes of the malaises is societal values on
certificates and as such there exists a corresponding quest for certificates in the face of poor enabling environment
provided by the governments at all levels for the education industry. Also is the believe in material things which has
gone grain-down in every Nigerian. This has led to corruption in every facet of our national life including the
education industry. The paper also proffers some methods of curbing down the menace as it affects our national
development including societal re-orientation towards examination malpractice and training and retraining of teachers
among others
